Mel Dahl
Mel Dahl is a South Florida writer. After being involuntarily discharged from the U.S. Navy for being gay, he went to law school and then sued that branch of the military over its anti-gay policy; he is the only military plaintiff to have represented himself before the U.S. Court of Appeals. After practicing law for six years he made a switch to high tech and for many years was a technical writer for a Fortune 100 company in suburban Boston. He conducts seminars on the legal rights of gays and lesbians and continues free-lance writing. He has received numerous awards including Lambda Legal Foundation's 1993 Liberty Award and the Boston Bar Association's 1996 Denis Maguire Pro Bono Award.
