Niclas Berggren
Niclas Berggren holds a Ph.D. in economics from the Stockholm School of Economics, part of which was acquired under a Fulbright grant at the Center for Study of Public Choice at George Mason University. He is now an Associate Professor of economics and Vice President of the Ratio Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, a private research institute focusing on entrepreneurship, institutional economics, and the political economy of reform.
Born in 1968, he has published articles on constitutional issues and on economic freedom, making a case for the principle of constitutionalism and the separation of powers in order to preserve liberty and to promote economic growth. He has also written policy reports on the Scandinavian economies, which are plagued by rigidities and high taxation.
He has written a number of essays on gay-related matters. He has also published some book reviews (e.g., on two of Andrew Sullivan's books) and has written some op-eds in Swedish, defending the 1995 Partnership Act, granting gay and lesbian Swedes the right to, more or less, marry, as well as recent legislation allowing gay couples to adopt children and, in the case of female couples, to inseminate. Among his interests: libertarian politics, opera and ballet, philosophy of religion, literature, and dining.
